No one was surprised when we announced we were opening our own cafe. I’ve been baking and cooking for as long as I can remember, secretly creating vision boards and dream menus. What people were curious about was the name!
LET’S JUST CALL IT FAT CATS CAFE
There’s not a week that passes by that we are not asked, “but why Fat Cats?”. Theories range from, “you must be loving cats” (not particularly :)) to “is this a pet shop / cafe?” (no, definitely not). To put to rest all these queries, let’s just say after weeks and weeks of putting forth every combination of cafe type name to my family and being unequivocally shut down on all counts, one day I lost my patience and said, “fine, then…let’s just call it Fat Cats!”
Now years later, we can’t imagine our little cafe as anything else.
MORE THAN A CAFE
There’s never been a day when I thought of my dream cafe without books being involved. And while we are still a ways away from realising my secret plan of a wine bar / cafe / book shop (hello Universe , are you listening), Fat Cats has always been a place where you can come and sink into a good book along with a slice of cake and a cup of coffee. We also are super proud of our BOOK EXCHANGE PROGRAM at the cafe. Take any book you want off our shelves, just make sure you replace it with one of yours. No charges. No library fees. Just a pure unadulterated love of reading.
